Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, Cartier; their Holiday displays are the first things that come to mind when thinking of Christmas in New York, but did you ever wonder who’s responsible for creating those fantastic designs?

As the foremost designer concentrating exclusively on holiday décor and installations, American Christmas is renowned as the industry leader. From traditional to cutting-edge contemporary, their sophisticated displays and imaginative designs dazzle shoppers and visitors at the most famous retailers and landmark buildings across America. Not bad for a niche business started by a 21 year old kid straight out of college.

I first learned of Chris Cornell about a year ago when I began my social media experience by signing up on Twitter. Chris is a Westchester businessman who runs a successful custom framing shop in the town of Pleasantville. He is also a big believer in the power of social networking and the editor of TwitterProfessor.com, a blog whose mission is to “Build Communities Through Social Media.”

During our numerous Twitter based connections, I discovered that Chris has taken his knowledge of art and his talent at community building and applied it to what I believe is his greatest passion, baseball. He is the curator of a website called BaseballArt.com, a site that, through Chris’ hard work and brilliant use of Facebook and Twitter, has quickly become the go to destination for anyone who believes that baseball is more than just a game.

BaseballArt.com features the work of dozens of artists creating baseball-themed artwork who deserve to be recognized. BaseballArt.com features these artists, as well as the galleries, museums and websites where their work can be found. BaseballArt.com also presents their fans with information and news related to baseball art, and looks to foster communication about baseball art from members of its community.

This film was produced by Ivy Fuld and Rob Sampogna as part of a class called “Reel Change for Nonprofits” at Jacob Burns Film Center’s Media Arts Lab.

Led by JBFC Faculty Member Theresa Dawson, the class allows students to learn how to use the media to communicate its mission, and how to make public service announcements (PSAs) and short films an effective part advocacy work.

Located in Pleasantville, The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) is a nonprofit educational and cultural institution dedicated to presenting the best of independent, documentary, and world cinema; promoting 21st century literacy; and making film a vibrant part of the community. Housing a state-of-the-art theater complex, a 27,000 square-foot Media Arts Lab, and a residence for international filmmakers, the JBFC campus provides opportunities for people of all ages to discover, explore, and learn through the power of film, media and 21st-century technology.

Since they opened their doors to the public in 2001, more than a million people from the tri-state area have gone there to see over 3,000 films from every corner of the globe. Over 65,000 students in grades 3-12 and college have participated in their education programs, more than 50% of them from underserved communities throughout the tri-state area. Their participation, including transportation, is funded entirely by the JBFC, thanks in part to support from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
